South African cultural studies: local cultures 15-APSK-KM-PA-11
This course presents various aspects of the divergent cultures of South Africa. These include for example the role of traditional healers, indigenous law and customs, rock art and spirituality, South African folklore, South African literature, South African film studies, roots of conflict, and more. The expertise and specialization of visiting academics would further enhance the scope of these cultural studies.

Learning outcomes
1. Students will have an overview of various cultural aspects of South Africa.
2. Students must be able to apply knowledge gained within the classroom, but the course also encourages students to do further research within sub-cultures
that are introduced to them.
Assessment criteria
Studentswill be evaluated according to their class participation, an oral presentation during the semester about any related topic and a written test at the end of the semester.
