Course learning content:
- the most important phenomena in contemporary Polish literature,
- concepts of: masterpiece, best-seller, kitsch, pop culture,
- idioms and conventions in contemporary poetry and fiction,
- setting (themes, issues, ideas) in contemporary literature,
- main trends in Polish contemporary literature,
- contemporary Polish literature on the international scene (translations, translators, reception),
- contemporary Polish literature contexts (movie adaptations, computer games, etc.),
- locality and universality of Polish literature.

Efekty kształcenia
On successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- indicate the most important (generally acclaimed, the most commented, the most controversial, considered to be a breakthrough) works of Polish literature and pop culture,
- independently prepare an interpretation of selected literary works,
- establish contemporary axiological tools and apply them to literature,
- characterize relationship of contemporary Polish literature towards world literature; to apply comparative perspective,
- write a short interpretative essay or a review of a chosen work,
- take part in panel discussion on contemporary literature.
Kryteria oceniania
Assessment criteria:
very good (bdb; 5,0): very good knowledge of problems and poetics of both: works discussed during the course and suggested for individual reading; ability to indicate and explain main issues in contemporary Polish literature; ability to situate the most important Polish literary works in the cultural context and the context of world literature; ability to independently interpret and evaluate a work; good knowledge on reception of discussed works.
good plus (+db; 4,5): the same with some minor shortcomings especially in the field of reception.
good (db; 4,0): wider range of shortcomings is possible; weaker practical skills – to write and to reason in favour of a thesis proposed.
satisfactory plus (+dst; 3,5): satisfactory knowledge of the most important works and their place on the contemporary literature map; basic ability to present (orally and in writing) the effects of interpretation and evaluation of a work.
satisfactory (dst; 3,0): satisfactory knowledge of the most fundamental contemporary works; ability to write an essay/a review on the basic level.
unsatisfactory (ndst; 2,0): unsatisfactory knowledge of works and contemporary literature contexts; serious shortcomings in interpretative skills.
