Professional status:

The sec. cycle programme in History is a continuation of the first cycle programme in History; it is intended for those with basic knowledge in archival science holding a bachelor’s degree. The sec. cycle program. in History extends and deepens the body of knowledge, capacities and competences obtained during the first cycle studies. Graduates of the sec. cycle program. in History with an archival science and records management specialisation are expected to acquire fluency in a foreign language at B2+ level in accordance with the requirements pertaining to non-major foreign languages established for a specific education level in the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education. Graduates have a thorough knowledge and skills in the field of archival science, records manag. and extensive knowledge in general humanities. They are prepared to independently perform the tasks of archivists and specialists in the field of document manag., regardless of the type of archives and institutions. Upon successful completion of the sec. degree program. in History with an archival science and records manag. spec. postgrad. research graduates are qualified to work in: - all types of archives - special collections divisions of libraries and museums - public administration offices. Professional practice in archives with historical records is mandatory in the course of the programme. In the field of historical studies, graduates will have demonstrated a thorough and specialist mastery of: 1) a body of knowledge in selected issues in Polish, European and Worldwide history 2) research skills in the field of historical research The requirement to participate in a M.A. seminar will have allowed graduates to study a variety of research issues, including the methods and theory of historical and archival research and source studies, and research procedures specific to a historical period and/or research issue studied. Through a master’s degree level program. in History with an archival science and records manag. spec. graduates will have acquired the knowledge and practical skills in the field of: 1) independent preformation of tasks at the position of an archivist and specialist in the field of document manag., regardless of the type of archives and institutions 2) methods of e-administration 3) modern forms of collection, storage, processing and providing access to archival materials 4) reading and comprehending texts written in Latin using Romanesque, Gothic and humanistic script, written in Russian using the Cyrillic alphabet and written in German using Gothic script 5) promotion and popularisation of archival resources 6) conducting research in the field of archival science and records manag A postgrad. research graduates will have obtained participatory skills: 1) a capacity to organise and evaluate one’s own and others’ work 2) teamwork skills 3) critical thinking skills 4) an ability to search and provide information efficiently The sec. cycle program. offers an opportunity to develop such professional features as accuracy, thoroughness, independence and responsibility. Learning outcomes: AM University expects its graduates of the sec. cycle program. in History with an archival science and records manag. spec. to have the following attributes: 1) knowledge of the organisation and manag. of institutions and an ability to make decisions and apply the knowledge for the manag. of archival institutions 2) knowledge of the organisation of archives in Poland and all over the world 3) a competence in using operating systems that automate document manag. in offices and current archives 4) knowledge of information systems and an ability to use them in archival science 5) a competence in applying metadata standards of electronic documents 6) knowledge of the methods of preparing documentation from all historical periods 7) a competence in working with archival records of historical value 8) a competence in popularising archival PR
