Introduction to interpreting (liaison) 15-WDTU-TLU-11
The main objective of the course is to develop a primary set of interpreting skills, including liaison interpreting, consecutive interpreting and sight translation. The practical part of the course is preceded by an introduction to the theory of interpreting, as well as discussions on interpreting quality and interpreter aptitude.
The topics covered in class include: (1) interpreting – theory, (2) liaison interpreting vs. consecutive interpreting: Skills and techniques, (3) mnemonics, (4) liaison interpreting – practice, (5) note-taking, (6) consecutive interpreting – practice, (7) public speaking, (8) sight translation.
Students are assessed on the basis of the final test and class participation. Course materials are available on the Moodle platform.
