Introduction to interpreting strategies 15-WDST-TK-11
This course aims at introducing interpreting strategies to interpreting trainees. First, potential interpreting settings are discussed. Then, students practice anticipation and chunking strategies, discuss cooperation issues in a simultaneous interpreting booth and complete reformulation tasks (using various text types and registers). Strategies used to interpret culture-specific items, to provide successful sight translation and to perform good quality chuchotage are also presented and practiced. The course ends with a discussion of expectations voiced by users of interpreting services and a class focusing on practicing the trainees’ native tongue.
