Literary translation 15-TLIT-NID-12
(First semester of a two-semester course. Continued as 15-TLIT-NID-22 in the second semester.)
This course focuses on the history and practice of literary translation, ranging across space and time to provide a comparative, international perspective. It addresses some of the following issues: the difficulties of literary language; theories of translation and translatability; theories of semantic equivalence; and the history of important moments of translation in shaping the literary imagination. Several translation tasks will be given to the students, both Dutch-Polish and Polish-Dutch, allowing them to practice important skills connected to these tasks.
