Literary translation 15-TL-TP-11
The overriding aim of this course is to acquaint students with one of the most demanding modes of written translation, namely literary translation and, above all, to make them practise translating literary texts. Other aims of the course include: familiarizing SS with the characteristics of various literary texts, teaching them how to recognize potential translational problems in literary texts, showing students how to overcome those potential problems, practising creative writing, practising literary translation and developing creativity. In order to receive a positive grade in this course students need to pass a number of graded translations done at home and pass a final in-class translation covering all the discussed topics. Attendance and active participation in class activities are also required.
