Medieval religious drama in England 15-RDSA-TD-11
This course will be devoted to the drama and theatre of medieval England from the time the Church started to use dramatized episodes, focusing on drama staged indoors, within the Church, through the process of the removal of drama from the Church. Staging techniques of the period will be elaborated upon (staging of cycle plays in England during the fifteenth century) as well as the conventions of thought affecting medieval drama. Medieval religious dramatic genres will be introduced: the mystery, miracle and morality plays and chosen dramatic pieces (dramatic texts of the plays) will be analysed.
