(First semester of Dutch as a foreign language classses for 3BA. Continued as 15-PNJN-3BA-22.)
This course consists of three components: vocabulary, speaking and writing. The course aims at developing communicative skills (both oral and written) in Dutch at the advanced level. The aim of this course is bringing students up to a advanced level of lexical and grammatical skills and provide them with new skills, such as academic writing. The course contents a wide range of advanced vocabulary, communication skills, writing and grammatical skills. They expand oral comprehensibility and after completing the course students are able to express opinions on various matters, specified topics are covered during the course which are set out at the beginning of the year (e.g. politics, society, environment protection, film, disasters). In addition, the course includes intensive writing exercises where a special emphasis is placed on academic writing. Student after completing the course should be able to point out the differences between an academic and popular text, write an academic text with a good structure, properly place the bibliographical references in his text and, last but not least, have knowledge of editorial standards adopted at the Faculty of English (WA Stylesheet). The evaluation includes grammar and vocabulary tests and oral tests, monitoring of student's work in the classroom and the final exam consisting of a written and oral part after the summer semester. In order to take the exam at the end of the academic year, the student must complete all three components of the course in the winter and in the summer semester. The exam is considered passed if the student obtains at least 61% of both parts.
