Chinese as a foreign language - listening and comprehension 15-PNJCH-LC-2BA-12
(First semester of a two-semester course. Next semester: 15-PNJCH-LC-2BA-22.)
The aim of the course is to develop students’ listening skills as such and broadening their general knowledge of China through listening to interesting materials presenting issues such as work and environment in China, Chinese business culture, tourist attractions, media news, etc. While listening to the recordings, students also practice their memory and concentration, and learn how to select and organize information.

Learning outcomes
After a successful completion of the course, a student:
- knows basic interpretation methods in relation to spoken discourse
- recognizes the gist after a single listening to a text
- understands and remembers specific information from a text
- infers information which was not expressed directly on the basis of listening
- understands the aims, intentions and emotions of the speaker
- recognizes the communicative function of a text and places it in an appropriate social and situational context
- distinguishes between formal and informal style of utterances
- reconstructs the meaning of incomprehensible ideas with reference to the context and extralingyuistic knowledge
- reacts appropriately to the contents of a text
- appreciates the need for a continuous development of listening comprehension skills
