English as a foreign language 3 - 1. Grammar; 2. Integrated Skills; 3. Writing 15-PNJA-3BA-ZL
1. (CW1) Grammar
The third year course enables students to consolidate the knowledge of grammar they gained previously. It also aims to revise and practice the points of grammar that proved problematic, and therefore can lead to potential errors. Finally, it is meant to extend students’ repertoire of advanced structures, many of which are idiom or collocation based.
--------------------
2. (CW2) Integrated skills
The aim of this course is to help students achieve near-native fluency in English. Emphasis is placed not only on perfecting pronunciation skills and intonation patterns but also on extensive practice of idioms, collocations and other important areas of vocabulary expansion. Students engage in activities which provide them with an opportunity to use and internalize new vocabulary. Class activities include formal presentations and panel debates based on previously prepared material as well as informal, impromptu discussions, games and movies.
--------------------
3. (CW3) Writing
In the third year extramural students are taught to construct arguments and to develop effective 500 – 550 word argumentative essays. They also learn how to respond critically to argumentative and academic texts within the classroom. Students are also acquainted with the format of the BA thesis as well as with the WA Stylesheet.
