Reading Chinese specialist texts 15-LTS-CH-12
(First semester of a two-semester course. Next semester: 15-LTS-CH-22.)
During the course students improve their reading skills and grasp basic theoretical and methodological knowledge and practical techniques of oral and written translation. Much attention is also given to improving students’ command of their native language, especially in writing. Specialist texts discussed during classes cover a broad scope of disciplines and topics, including Chinese culture and tradition, business, science, and society. Occasionally, students are asked to translate a simple article at home. They are supposed to master the most important vocabulary and grammatical constructions that appear in translated texts. Final exam verifies their translational skills, focusing on their fluency in both Chinese and Polish language.

- Topics referring to the geography of China;
- Topics referring to cultural monuments in China;
- Topics referring to the religious traditions and culture of China.

After a successful completion of the course, a student:
- Has an increasing awareness of the complexity of the Chinese language, its historical development and its close connections with the classical Chinese language.
- Is able to efficiently develop knowledge with the use of bilingual disctionaries and multimedia information sources.
- Prepares, both in class and at home, Chinese-Polish translations of texts connected with the topics covered in a given sememster, whiole their translations display an inceasing grammatical and lexical accuracy.
- Understands the need for continuous language improvement.
- Is abole to effciently cooprate in a group, assuming different roles and perspectives, during the coverage of issues connected with the topics discussed in a given semester.
