Computer-assisted translation 15-KWTL-TP-11
The goal of the course Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools is to familiarise written translation students with translation technologies through practical exercises. During the course students work with translation workstations, Internet resources for translators, OCR tools, corpora, MS Office, machine translation, and term bases. Final evaluation criteria are based on assignments completed throughout the semester, i.e. homework assignments, presentations on topics related to translation technologies, practical CAT tools skills test, and group project. After completing the course students will be able to translate texts with the aid of translation technologies, align source and target texts to create translation memories, use and edit translation memories as well as term bases, use machine translation for post-editing, use corpora and online translation resources. They will also be able to work in teams and take up various roles, i.e. project manager, translator, revisor, term base creator and editor.
