Norwegian life and institutions 09-WON-23
To provide the students with a knowledge of the different aspects of life, economy and culture in contemporary Norway. During the 5th term, emphasis is put on the Norwegian economy, including industry (particular attention is paid to crude oil), agriculture, fishing and sea trade. Further, some aspects of life and cultural heritage will be discussed, including. the history and contemporary organization of Norwegian science (with focus on the significance of polar exploration), religion, education, university and academic life. The 6th term is devoted to a further discussion of the culture, namely mass-media, cinema, painting (with focus on Munch), sculpture, architecture and music (with focus on Grieg).
