Language science: examples of research on language in psychology, sociology and philosophy; methods and types of scientific inquiry on language data
Systems of linguistics, units of language, features and relations, basics of linguistic analysis in phonetics, phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax
Phonetics and phonology: anatomy of articulatory apparatus, system of sounds; paradygmatic relationships
Applications of phonetic science; speech analysis, recognition and synthesis, how to recognize computer speech?
Semantics and syntax: syntagmatic relationships, pragmatics; applications of research on syntax and semantics, automatic translators and parsers

General knowledge about the topic will be assessed with dozen of questions about various definitions of language and sign, the scope of lingustic inquiry and linguistic systems like phonetics, morphology, semantics and syntax
