Module learning aims
Students learn about the functionning of a range of writing systems, their history and development as well as text coding techniques in the context of computer text processing.

Learning outcomes
After the course the student:
Knows the rules of various types of writing systems (alphabetic, abjad, abugida, syllabic)
Is familiar with the standards of computer coding of texts (ISO-8859, utf-8, utf-16, utf32) and the conversion of the standards
Knows the rules of a digitally-coded text into a graphic representation
Assessment criteria
Passing all control tests (at least 60% for each of the tests, one test per lesson), keeping deadlines for homeworks, max. 1 absency per semester.
