Module learning aims

1. Short presentation of the history of Old Turkic peoples. 2. Outline of the history of research, discovery of monuments with Turkic and Uyghur runic script 3. Classification of monuments and language documents into runic, Manichaean, Buddhistic and Christian. 4. Teaching ability to read, understand and translate the texts into Modern Turkish.

The student:
– is able to characterize the literary culture of Old Turks;
– understands the role of religion;
– is able to read, understand and translate into Modern Turkish the texts in runic script;
– knows how to use Clasuon's dictionary;
– knows transliteration;
– knows international and Turkish transcriptions.
