Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
demonstrate organised, advanced knowledge of practical English grammar and identify the possibilities and limitations resulting from the competences achieved
understand and apply the rules of English involving advanced distinctions in spoken grammar (formal and informal speech)
critically assess linguistic correctness and correct their own and others’ errors in both speaking and writing
independently and innovatively plan and carry out lifelong learning using dictionaries and other traditional and online sources
plan and organise individual and group work
Assessment criteria
In order to pass the course, a student must pass all written tests on the practical application of English grammar. The course concludes with a written exam.
A student is required to pass all tests and quizzes checking their knowledge of English grammar. The tests will form the basis of the grade using the weighted mean. Activity in class will also be taken into consideration (especially quality of comments and answers given).
The following scale will be used to assess the results of exercises, quizzes and tests:
0-59,9% - unsatisfactory
60-67,9% - satisfactory
68-75,9% - satisfactory plus
76-83,9% - good
84 -91,9% - good plus
92-100% - very good
In assessing vocabulary, logic and coherence of a text, the scale of grammatical correctness is as follows:
Unsatisfactory: poor use of language, poor linguistic ability creating difficulty in understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing;
Satisfactory: reasonable language skills, occasionally causing difficulty in understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing;
Satisfactory plus: reasonable language skills, rarely causing difficulty in understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing;
Good: good language skills, making understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing easy;
Good plus: very good language skills, making understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing easy;
Very good: excellent language skills, making understanding and interpreting the student both in speaking and writing very easy;
