From modernism to the avant-garde
Narration of subjectivism and social criticism
Existential novel and metafiction.
From "miraculous reality" ("real maravilloso") to an urban novel

Module learning aims

a) Familiarizing students with the Latin-American narrative before the rise of Boom. b) Presentation of the evolution of the Hispanic-American narrative from modernism to the first avant-garde. c) Discussion of the key representatives of existential trends in the Hispanic American narrative. d) Depicting the evolution from "miraculous reality" to an urban narrative.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course and confirming the EU achievement, the student:
Recognizes the major Latin American literary movements in the first half of the 20th century
It distinguishes the main features of modernism and avant-garde movements
He knows the most important features of the fantasy tradition
Recognizes the main features of existentialist narrative
Understands the main narrative changes in the period of the so-called boom

Evaluation:
- written test on the content and selected readings.
