History of the Danish language 09-HJDU-11
General issues concerning the tasks and aims of the history of language, Indo-European language group, general characteristics of the pro-Germanic language, and the break-up of the Germanic community. The issues in detail comprise: the emergence (7th century) and characteristics of the Proto-Nordic language; division into East- and West-Scandinavian dialects (7th-9th centuries); the formation of the Old Danish language (11th century); emergence of the Danish and Swedish languages (12th-14th centuries); formation of the Danish literary language (16th century; rise of the pan-dialectal language (rigsm?let).
The aim of the course is to present the development of the Danish language and the influence of historical, social and cultural events on creating the national language.
