Ethnobotany - Elective course 09-EB-F-11
The course should familiarize students with the issues of ethnobiology and ethnobotany. The course lasts for one semester (30h of classes with a teacher). Students should devote 30h of their own work.
The students will have the opportunity to take a look at the rarely discussed issues from the fields of ethnobotany and ethnobiology. The course is designed to familiarize with the issues of biodiversity and the relationships between humans and the plant world, with particular emphasis on the species closely related to the different cultural circles. These are, among other, medicinal plants, sacred or hallucinogenic species. At the end of the course the student is aware of the relationships between plants and culture and gains practical skills in the use of individual plants.

After completing the course the student knows the basic themes, concepts, issues and the status of research within the subject of ethnobotany. The student has knowledge of the phenomena occurring in different cultural areas. Should know how to analyze and draw conclusions in order to create a general ethnobotanical theory as welll as has intercultural skills. One should be able to independently conduct ethnobotanical research, analyze and submit in writing their results.
Assessment criteria
Attendance. The students should submit a self-made herabrium in order to pass the semester.

The literature will be presented to the students during the course.
