Module learning aims

The goal of the course is to introduce the students with analytic approach to geometry. The students will be able: analyze problems utilizing the application of principles of analytic geometry, use the facts, formulas and the techniques learned in this course to prove theorems in plane and solid analytic geometry including vector algebra, lines, planes, conics, quadric surfaces and isometric transformations.

Learning outcomes

Cartesian 1-,2-,3-dimensional spaces. Rectangular, polar, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Vectors. Operations on vectors. The inner product of vectors.
Lines on plane. Equations of lines. Dystanse of point from line.
Orientation. The cross product of vectors.
Planes and lines in 3-space.
Isometries on plane. Analytic equations for isometries.
Affine transformations of plane.
Ellipse, hyperbola, parabola. Conics and their classification.
Examples of quadric surfaces.
