History of the humankind from the very beginning till Middle Ages with special regard to basic ideas and terms that are used in archaeology. The classes fix attention on details, including cultural and chronological determinants.

Student:
1) gains the basic knowledge about the process of cultural changes in prehistory, proto-history and in the Middle Ages and its time-space dimension;
2) gains the understanding of archaeological scientific methods; student is acquainted with the sources, terminology and research tools;
3) gains the skills necessary to read with understanding the archaeological literature.
The course is treated as an introduction to Prehistory of Europe of subsequent periods to be studied from the 2nd semester.
Assessment criteria
Class participation, in-class presentation, review of literature, final test and oral exam.
