Translator and Contemporary Media - specialization of Functional Translation 03-TM-31SDL

Student: 1) gain the basic knowledge of: the most crucial problems of media studies; world of contemporary media with main focus on mass media systems in Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia; work of journalists and translators in the press, radio and TV; student learns about basic journalistic genres and audiovisual translation; 2) gain the understanding of : the role of media studies in the humanities and general culture; research methods specific to the media studies; the difference between translation of monosemiotic and audiovisual texts; 3) gain the skills necessary to: comprehend and summarize scholarly articles, as well as comment upon them; use properly basic media terminology; edit and translate basic journalistic genres; edit subtitles for diverse audiovisual text; prepare in class oral presentations; conduct the library querry and research; contextualize acquired knowledge; compare different literary theories; summarize discussions and draw conclusions; work with others.

Module learning aims

(in Polish) Cele modułu kształcenia: Celem zajęć jest nabycie umiejętności i kompetencji miękkich, potrzebnych do zbudowania warsztatu tłumacza oraz wprowadzenie studentów do praktyki językowej w mediach współczesnych: prasie, radiu, telewizji i internecie, wiedza z zakresu gatunków dziennikarskich i internetowych; opanowanie sztuki translatorskiej w dobie mediów elektronicznych. Studenci doskonalą także sztukę autoprezentacji, zdolność do samodzielnej pracy, umiejętność zastosowania wiedzy z translatoryki i medioznawstwa w praktyce, umiejętność adaptowania się do nowych warunków, kreatywność, rozumienie specyfiki mediów innych kultur, dbałość o jakość tłumaczeń.

Methods of teaching for learning outcomes achievement

(in Polish) Wykład z prezentacją multimedialną wybranych zagadnień, wykład konwersatoryjny, dyskusja, praca z tekstem, demonstracje dźwiękowe i/lub video, metody aktywizujące, praca w grupach.
