Lexicology and lexicography 03-LIL-21

Students get acquainted with various types of dictionaries and lexicons. They also learn how to use them in their work and everyday life.

Module learning aims

The course aims at: - providing students with basic knowledge of lexicology and lexicography - developing their skills in gathering data for philological analysis of texts and critical reading of dictionaries and lexicons - developing skills of lexicographic description of linguistic units

Learning outcomes

After this course students:
- can define basic linguistic terms within the fields of lexicology and lexicography
- enumerate major dictionaries of Polish (including on-line dictionaries and e-dictionaries) and be able to use them properly
- write and edit an entry
- critically assess a monolingual dictionary
- prepare and give a presentation about selected theoretical issues.
