- early Middle Ages and the rising of the Polish state; pre-Roman and Roman art
- full Middle Ages; fragmentation of Poland and its consequences; local Gothic art
- the Jagiellonian period and the phenomenon of Polish Renaissance
- the free election period and the fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; Sarmaticism and the Polish Baroque
- the partitions period: the 19th century Polish uprisings, the Great Emigration; the industrial revolution on Polish territories, the First World War; Classicism, Romanticism, Realism.

Learning outcomes
After this lecture students:
- have basic knowledge of the political history of Poland
- have basic knowledge of the development of architecture and art within the historical Polish territories
- know the major personalities and events of the Polish history
- understand the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity of the Polish society
- are able to connect the key events of Polish history with the history of the neighbouring countries
- are able to connect the historical events with their representation in literary works.
