Basic Inorganic Chemistry 02-PCHNL-22
Presentation of comprehensive information on inorganic chemistry and current problems of research and interest in this field. On the basis of the material presented in the lecture and laboratory classes the students are expected to describe fundamental relations within particular groups of the elements. Students should be able to explain the trends in changes in the reactivity, structure and properties of the elements and their compounds give insight into the structure of the table of the elements as well as into the fundamentals of inorganic chemistry. Having learnt the information provided in this course, the students are expected to be able to interpret the properties of the majority of inorganic compounds on the basis of qualitative models based on quantum mechanics. Although the qualitative models of bonding and reactivity explain and systemize the subject, the students should realize that inorganic chemistry is essentially an experimental science. The students are also expected to be able to use the knowledge gained in this course in further studies of new areas of inorganic chemistry in which new inorganic compounds are synthesized and identified.
